Voluntariat Europeu: Romania – 2023

Thanks to A4ACTION, I had one of the best summers of my life, experiencing one of the most enriching opportunities I’ve ever encountered. Although I was a bit nervous and confused when I arrived in Ghermanesti on the 1st of July, as I had never traveled abroad on my own before, it didn’t take long for me to feel at home. The organisers made great efforts to ensure my comfort, for which I will always be very grateful to you.

Thanks to this opportunity you provided me with, I’ve learned to communicate with people from other cultures, even when they may not reciprocate; I’ve had the chance to become self-reliant in a foreign country, which involved managing my own finances and many other aspects that will be invaluable when I have to become independent; I’ve also learned to interact with various types of individuals, not just on a cultural level, but also in terms of diverse personalities. I’ve learned to tolerate differing opinions and understand that someone’s behavior may be driven by various factors, whether they are related to family, society, or economics.

However, the most significant and heartwarming part of my experience undoubtedly stems from my initial misconception that I wouldn’t be good at taking care of children. I was proven wrong because some of my fondest memories and cherished gifts came from the children, such as the flowers and drawings from Ion Maria, the humorous moments with Fane and Tudor, or the incredible gifts from Maria and Stefan Culcescu, which I will hold dear.
Having expressed all of this, I hope that one day my path will lead me back to Ghermanesti and Snagov, allowing me to enjoy your company once again.

What an experience! I don’t think I would change anything that happened during these two months in this country and in this project. I believe that volunteering in this manner has helped me to recognize and accept certain aspects of my life and myself, while also aiding me in discovering new things about myself or things I didn’t know much about before.

Moreover, having the opportunity to work with an association characterized by strength and independence has allowed me to witness how women can play a fundamental role in the communities we are a part of. I am proud and delighted to have found A4ACTION as my volunteering platform.

Lastly, I would like to extend my best wishes to A4ACTION for all the prosperity in the world. To all those who are contemplating or considering volunteering, whether it’s with this association or in general, I encourage you to seize the opportunity. It’s truly wonderful.
